There are 3 categories of Phobias: Specific - Social - Agoraphobia
Specific Phobia
If you're phobic about only one thing and one thing only then you have a 'specific' phobia. For example you're scared of cats and nothing else. And it is only in the presence of the actual phobia stimulus, or when you think about it, that you feel the fear.
Social Phobia
Social phobia is a type of anxiety problem. Extreme feelings of shyness and self-consciousness build into a powerful fear. As a result a person feels uncomfortable participating in everyday social situations.
Agoraphobia
Agoraphobia is a disorder that arises from anxiety where the sufferer will begin to avoid situations associated with their anxious feelings. They may become housebound as they develop an intense fear of having an anxiety attack, losing control or embarrassing themselves in a certain situation. Agoraphobics will usually want to escape any situation in which they feel trapped leading to severe panic attacks. It is not unusual for a sufferer of Agoraphobia to become fearful of open spaces.
